Frequently Asked Questions

Concierge medicine means you get direct access to your provider without the hassle of traditional office visits. You can call, text, or message us anytime for guidance, prescription management, or questions about your plan. It’s personalized, on-demand care built around your schedule — not ours.

Anyone experiencing low energy, brain fog, decreased libido, mood changes, or difficulty building muscle could benefit from having their hormones evaluated. Both men and women can experience hormone decline — we help restore balance so you can feel like yourself again.

Most of our process is done remotely. Labs can be drawn at a nearby Quest Diagnostics, and visits can be done virtually by phone or video. If you’re local to Winston-Salem, we’re happy to see you in person.

Many patients start noticing improvements in energy, mood, and focus within 4–6 weeks. Physical changes like improved muscle tone or fat loss typically appear after 8–12 weeks with consistency in treatment, nutrition, and exercise.

Yes — labs are essential for safe and effective dosing. We include all required labs in your plan and review them with you before starting and at regular intervals during treatment.

At Performance Hormone Health, we don’t believe in treatments that prioritize profit over patient safety. Pellet therapy is often heavily marketed because of its high markup — not because it offers better results. In reality, pellets can’t be adjusted once inserted, and hormone levels can spike and crash unpredictably, leading to unwanted side effects.

We choose not to offer pellets because we believe it’s unethical to sell a treatment that limits patient control and carries unnecessary risk. Our focus is on precision-based care — using injectable, transdermal, or oral bioidentical hormones that can be safely monitored and adjusted to keep you feeling your best.

Furthermore, The Menopause Society and The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists specifically do NOT recommend pellets.

Testosterone injections are given either in the glute, thigh, or shoulder. Most patients find it simple once shown how to do it correctly. We can demonstrate in person at your first visit or send you an instructional video with step-by-step guidance. Our goal is to make it safe and stress-free — and you’ll always have support if you need help.

No problem — we can easily transition your care. We’ll review your current regimen, order baseline labs, and fine-tune your protocol to align with your goals.

We do not bill insurance. Unfortunately, insurance companies often block or limit access to the most effective forms of hormone therapy. They require outdated lab ranges, deny coverage for preventive treatments, and force providers to follow one-size-fits-all protocols that don’t work for everyone. By staying independent, we’re able to give you the most effective, individualized care — using modern labs, customized dosing, and direct communication without waiting on insurance approval.

While GLP-1 medications (like semaglutide and tirzepatide) can lead to short-term weight loss, we choose not to prescribe them. These drugs work by slowing digestion and suppressing appetite, but they don’t correct the underlying hormonal or metabolic imbalances that cause weight gain in the first place.

More importantly, they come with serious potential downsides:

  • Muscle loss: Up to 40% of weight lost can be lean muscle mass, which slows metabolism long-term.

  • Nausea and digestive issues: Many users experience severe GI symptoms, including vomiting and gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach).

  • Hormonal rebound: When the medication is stopped, appetite often surges, and most patients regain the weight — sometimes with more body fat and less muscle than before.

  • Unknown long-term safety: GLP-1s are relatively new, and the full effects of chronic use aren’t yet known.

At Performance Hormone Health, we focus on restoring the body’s natural hormonal balance — improving energy, metabolism, and muscle preservation through sustainable methods that support long-term results.
